The Sound of Music is one of the great Hollywood films. Set in the Austrian city of Salzburg, it is the portrayal of the real-life story of the singing von Trapp family. But while it has attracted hundreds of thousands of tourists to the city since it came out in 1965, there was never a museum specifically dedicated to the film. But that has changed with the opening of The Sound of Music Museum, which blends the story of the making of the film with artefacts, costumes and footage, along with the true story of the von Trapps. A celebrity opening of the museum saw original cast members reunited with descendants of the von Trapp children. Here’s my story of the museum, and that grand launch, in The Travel Magazine.
